Meet Diane Dean...
Award winning Artist Diane Dean works in mixed media, encaustic, collage and acrylic on canvas. Her vivid, heavily textured abstracts and florals have been featured in “Southern Living Magazine,” Hendersonville’s “Bold Life,” "Asheville Made," “Rapid River Arts and Culture” and on the cover of “The Laurel of Ashville.” She has exhibited in the Asheville Regional Airport and in the permanent collections of Mission Hospital Asheville, and Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville. She has won numerous Best in Show awards and her work hangs in corporate and private collections in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
As the Director of the Hilton Head Art League, she managed the Art League’s National Workshop Program and gained national attention when HGTV’s “That’s Clever” series featured a segment on her work and techniques.
Now settled in Hendersonville, NC, she is the President of the Art League of Henderson County. Over the last three years, she has been instrumental in growing the Art League to its present-day 500 members and the opening of The Art Place Gallery and Studios and the Glassman Clay Studio. Throughout her career she has won numerous awards including awards at The Piccolo Spoleto Festival, Mount Dora Art Festival, the Atlanta Arts Festival, The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, Ann Arbor Arts Festival and others. Now working from her studio in downtown Hendersonville at the Art MoB Studios, she continues to experiment with new techniques, subjects and mediums. Diane also teaches a variety of workshops and classes for the Art League.
As the President of one of the largest visual arts organizations in Western North Carolina, she demonstrates leadership not only in the arts community, but as a member of the City of Hendersonville’s Community Character and Public Art Committees. She has initiated student intern programs providing the artists of tomorrow with opportunities to work with her and with the Art League. Several of her interns have gone on to be successful as artists and as art teachers in the community.
