I have no workshops on the calendar for a month or two.
Past workshops:
Textured Acrylic PaintingEach day Diane will make a brief presentation and do a demonstration of her approach to acrylic painting. Her style is loose and somewhat abstract with texture. Students will receive a pre-gessoed canvas board on the first day of class so they can experiment and get the feel of working with acrylics on both a smooth and textured surface. Students will be working with both brushes and palette knives to explore both landscapes and still life. w Some supplies will be available and a link to the complete supply list will be posted on our website.

Palette Knife Acrylic Painting
The workshop will focus on painting with heavy bodied acrylics and palette knives in a loose style. The workshop will include several demos using various techniques, acrylic paint formulas, and a variety of sizes of palette knives. Options for students will be both impressionistic and abstract. Students will work on stretched canvas and will find that, though painting with a palette knife is challenging, it can be a rewarding approach to paint application. When applied, the colors make an immediate impact due to their purity. Many artists abandon paint brushes altogether in favor of the semi-flexible palette knife to create paintings that are full of rich texture and sweeping blends of color.

CollageDiane Dean will lead students through incorporating collage papers with paints and found items to create one large collage that is then cut into sections to become a series of works. Emphsis is placed on limited colors, variations of values and avoiding one focal point. The result is often surprising.

Mixed Media/Collage/Resin Diane Dean will lead an exploration of mixed media incorporating collage papers with paints and found items to create both representational and abstract/non-objective paintings. Emphasis will be on creativity, design and composition. Students will explore the process of using multiple painting/drawing mediums and embedding papers and object into their compositions. Compositions will range from representational to abstract and include architectural elements. The focus will be developing a free, explorative approach to each project.

Start Small Finish Big Abstract Acylic PaintingInstructor Diane Dean will lead you through an exploration of a variety of abstract styles and techniques with an emphasis on finding what works for you as an artist. Students will be encouraged to try new things as a way to experience breakthroughs and work freely and quickly. You will be finding ways to develop your own way of applying paint and to compose the visual space of your abstract paintings. We will begin with small studies to explore drawing and painting intuitively. Then we will take favorite small pieces from our previous exercises and turn them into larger abstract paintings.
